15 May
Brutus and Luna

As a family, we were lucky enough to come across such an awesome pair of dogs.

Brutus and Luna are from Boksburg, their owners are relocating to Cape Town. Sadly due to the high cost of living, they can not take their pets with them. Brutus and Luna are brother and sister, they are only 18 months old.

We were able to get the pair on Saturday the 13th of May and man was I excited about this meeting.

I was all up and ready just after 7 am, and then after got so sick. It took me eight rescues, two nausea meds, and four cups of tea, to just relax. When they arrived all that went through my head was - THEY ARE FINALLY HERE!

Brutus jumped off the back of the bakkie with his dad (previous owners) and Luna was patiently waiting inside the bakkie with her mom (previous owners).

They were so excited and drained from the two-hour trip that all they could do was run up and down and sniff everything!

At this stage, the kids' three babies were in their rooms and we were waiting for Brutus and Luna to get used to the new smells and then introduce them to each other BUT sadly Snowball, is on heat, so, we were not able to introduce her to the new family members. The size of my new giants had my kids in panic mode about bringing Roxy and Lilly out to meet Brutus and Luna.

So I then tried to get hold of their dad so that he could come home and help me with this matter.

The owners said their goodbyes after giving me all their papers and briefly telling me how they are, what they are used to, and whatnot. At this point, I was listening and trying to focus but, all I was seeing, is my two new babies...my big giant babies!

Brutus and Luna were all over the show. Exploring the entire yard, even the back where the other dogs have not been yet due to it being cornered off. Funny enough Brutus and Luna get to be in front after I said its that cat's safe space - no dogs lol

Anyhow we were in the house and somehow Snowball, Roxy, and Lilly came out and Brutus and Luna were just standing in the passage looking at them and all you hear is the 3 rascals barking like no man's business at these two, and funny enough Brutus and Luna just want to go and smell them and as they went closer the three chickens run into Nina's room which made her scared and she closed it off to make sure they do not have another encounter until her dad is home. I laughed because all that Brutus and Luna did was try to sniff them and play and all they did was scream in a panic lol

It was funny. Watching these giants just standing there doing nothing and the tiny ones running away without anything happening.Anyhow my partner came home and tried to assist but the kids were afraid and funny enough I think he was too because his first words were...they are huge lol

He had a few minutes with them and then tried getting one at a time here by them to introduce them to each other and man it was sweet.

Luna is okay and good with all three but Lilly and Roxy, are a little b£$&@ and keep on barking at her but she is not even close to them or doing anything. With Brutus being so hyper my partner suggested we take them for a walk and wow that was something else. He can handle any weight and he is kinda strong but skinny lol but Brutus and Luna were making him wish he was heavier and stronger. When I took Luna, remember I have Evi in the carrier on me...as I walk with Luna she is right by me, a bit in front of me but mainly by me and not pulling me...walking by me lol, and when we got to the park, I asked him to give me Brutus and see if he would not be calmer by me and he was to our surprise. Brutus was sweeter than Luna as his head was right by me and he walked slower than what I was walking with Luna and he felt immediately when my partner took over again. The park was fun, and when we got home - it did the trick, they were both a lot calmer and just drank water and then fell on the ground by me. It was heaven to me as they were both right behind me facing the different sides of me. I love every moment with them!

So on Sunday, Brutus met Lilly and Roxy again, and he just wants to play so badly, and it is so sweet. With Lilly, I was laughing because Lilly is so scared but yet she barks at him for just sniffing her, and then as he tries to be funny and hop around she went into psycho mode and barked for real and he run away...he big teddy with a super tiny hearty and all these girls are doing is beating him up and sadly my partner is not helping him, he is said to Brutus to calm down the whole time...funny hay. Now I do know and do understand why they are barking when he is smelling them, I mean, to be honest, I would also not be happy with a guy sniffing my behind lol

So it's Monday, 15th of May, and Lilly comes out and all Brutus wanted is to play, and yet she runs away as soon as she saw Rubz. My Giants are all over with me and the three ladies just get bathroom breaks lol.Brutus and Luna are such loving dogs. All Brutus wants is affection and Luna..as long as she sees the kids, she is happy.

While I am by my pc, these two are just here by me. Brutus is just as high as my shoulder...no wait, he is taller than me, his eyes look down into mine when I sit at my pc. Luna looks a lil bit up toward me, lol, they are truly my loving, gentle giants and I am so in love with them!

Brutus and Luna sleep with us in the bedroom and the cutest thing ever is Luna wakes up every time I wake up for Evi and she sits by me while I rock Evi back to sleep. She is truly a gem.

My partner and Brutus are not yet seeing eye to eye and Nina is still so scared of the loves of her babies...sad because they do not see the tiny heart in the beast of a body!

Today while we had loadshedding, Brutus came and laid on the ground and Evi went and tried to lie on his head by him but he rolled off and ended up next to Brutus' head, it was so cute and Brutus is gentle, all he does is lick Evi..basically licks every one to death haha

Brutus came earlier while I was soothing Evi and laid his head on my lap and all he wanted was a rub and that was all I did and I could see the appreciation in his eyes. At moments he looks sad, which I can understand but I do not like it, I will do anything to keep him happy as he is part of the team making me a lot happier than when I was just with my kids.

Kids find it funny when I ask them to leave the bathroom while I am busy as I do not use the bathroom with the audience haha but it does not work - it did not even work on just my kids.

I can now truly say I am no longer alone. They understand what I do not even say and they listen. Brutus needs a firmer voice and sometimes like Rubz needs me to repeat myself but they listen to me and I love it.

If anyone has had a similar case with introducing dogs to each other - please help me so that I can make sure no one loses a dog.

Thank you
